What qualities do you look for in music or a gig? What f**ks you off?

Coco Solid

So I’m always out at gigs and listening to all types of music and I was trying to figure out what it is about different parties and music that hooked me. This is what a few of my friend have said. What do you think?

Alice Andersen – Girl Friday (Oh Yeah!)
i like: danceability, listenability, heckleability and outfits. tight horn sections.
i dont like: the half circle of death at the dux (Christchurch).

Tom Darlow – Lead man for The Deceivers (shake baby shake)
Originality and effort. And nudity.

Cameron Tod – Melbourne Party Man Extraordinaire
fun and creativity. I love it when you can tell the act is putting heaps of effort and care into their show, but they do it with a smile on their face.

Benji Jackson – a Freelance Journalist and Gentlemen Publicist in Auckland
Well I think it’s got to be a spiritual encounter at times. Like the band and the audience in harmony. As hippy as that sounds!
(What fucks me off?) People who go to gigs to be seen to be seen. Like paying your cash, smoking through three bands and catching the last band.

Mark Roberts – The Enright House
Musical sincerity, not entertainment šŸ™‚

That’s their word, what’s yours?

Rad times with Rare Shot Blue @ Double Happy

On Friday night I had the honor of playing alongside Rare Shot Blue at the release party for his latest album, Where I was Born.

It was a small but fun crowd and they were definantly keen for a boogie. His new album is much more of a downbeat affair compared to what he has released in the past but is of high quality both musically and technically. Hideto is the man behind the beats and over the years he’s had an assortment of guest vocalists, including LA Mitchell, Sascha Vee and Rosie. The current live act consists of Hideto and Rosie.Ā

For those who didn’t get a chance to check Rare Shot Blue out on Friday check out what he’s got to offer online:
http://www.myspace.com/rareshotblue
http://www.youtube.com/user/hideto2005

He’ll also be performing at a few more gigs around Christchurch in November, for details check out his Myspace page.

Mad props to my man Hideto, Rosie, DJĀ Silence and DJ SnareĀ for a wonderful night!

Peace,
Dr HĀ

Starlifter.TV in da hizzy, OH YEAH!

Howdy and Welcome!
Well I think that it has taken all of 2008 to get myself all sorted with a blog/site that can do all the things that I want it to do and here it is (hopefully this one wonā€™t get hacked by Turkish Hackers).

*** Hi there! Welcome to Starlifter.TV ***

Dr Hitchcock here keeping it fresh, fried and freakified! I am Programme & Music Director and Friday Drive Host at RDU 98.5 FM in Christchurch, New Zealand, I host and produce podcasts, DJ out and about, throw the odd party, and make a general nuisance of myself (you how it is). My previous project was the ā€œMixtapeā€ brand, the Mixtape Sessions Radio Show, the Mixtape Connection Parties and Podcasts etc.

But this is the new nu – if thereā€™s any bands, producers or music you think is worth checking out let me know. Thatā€™s what Starlifter.TV is all about, helping amazing musicians and artists be seen in the cosmic jungle. You can email me at: starliftertv [at] gmail [dot] com or via any of the many sites listed on the side. Iā€™m even thinking about producing some video shows in 2009 but weā€™ll see.

Iā€™m in the process of reviewing the new Module (Module.co.nz) live album ‘Pattern Dot Life’ so be sure to check out Starlifter.TV for that really soon. In the mean time you can hear the album for yourself. Itā€™s available for free download from www.patterndotlife.co.nz

Oh, Tom Cosm (COSM.co.nz) has a new song ā€˜heaps good strong boardā€˜ available for free download now too. Itā€™s heaps of fun.

Thanks for crusing with me on this journey. Itā€™s great having you along for the ride.

Peace,
Dr H
