Debut Kitsunegari EP Available for Free Download

Kitsunegari – Alles Gute Zum Geburtstag oder Herzlichen Gluckenwunsch
http://kitsunegari-rock.bandcamp.com

What’s happened to multi-instrumentalist Reuben Winter, guitarist for People People, sometimes Cannibal Faggots and a whole host of other collaborations since the break up of that MUZAI band? Yeah, we meant Bandicoot…

Forged with a tone and ambiance the 16 year old relates as similar to the works of Slint, Boris, Smashing Pumpkins and “a bit of Mastodon and Devo”, Winter’s latest project with MUZAI Records, Kitsunegari, have been feverishly tightening up their compositions after a handful of shows and a sneak-preview of their music in the form of a rough version of “Revolver Ocelot”. A very rough version, some might confess.

Comprising of members of People People and FATANGRYMAN, it’s been six months of refinement as a band which has lead them to test the proverbial waters of the New Zealand music scene – and rather than making the listener part with their hard earned cash, the band’s debut EP, Alles Gute Zum Geberstag oder Herzlichen Gluckenwunsch (roughly translated – “Happy Birthday and Best Wishes”) is free to download from Wednesday September 22nd at 4pm through their Bandcamp page.

Recording duties undertaken by another former Bandicoot member, Daniel McBride, in a whirlwind two days, so tight lipped is the release of the EP that not everyone involved with the record label has heard any of the material since completion – let alone the entire EP.

However, going by their strong performances at the Year One anniversary show, their most recent outing supporting Tommy Ill during his album release tour and the collective aptitude the “supergroup” have shown through their other ventures, it’s hard to believe this release will fall short of anything other than remarkable.

Full Moon Fiasco – Cosmic Palms and National Tour.

Full Moon Fiasco

MUZAI Records are proud to announce that Wellington band Full Moon Fiasco are releasing their debut album Cosmic Palms (release date: August 9th) with a national tour; kicking off on August 6th at Wellington’s hallowed venue Happy.

Featuring members of Thought Creature, Kittentank, Red Country and The Pickups, you could almost call Full Moon Fiasco a Wellington super group of sorts. In fact you really should. Almost unbelievably awesome and absolutely mind blowing live, Full Moon Fiasco are the band that has been missing from your lives, mortals!

Full Moon Fiasco stems from a solo recording project by Thought Creature’s Will Rattray which encompassed a desire to explore new sonic territory outside of Thought Creature (with their honed and tight, dance friendly/post punk sound), drawing on a larger palette of multi-tracked full, lush approach to song craft reminiscent of anything by Brian Wilson or the 13th Floor Elevators. The resulting album Cosmic Palms encompasses a layered, textured sound that draws on the psychedelic elements of bands like Piper at the Gates of Dawn era Pink Floyd, and more recently Brian Jonestown Massacre. At times the album almost feels garage such as in tracks like Neighbourhood Clowns, or dream-like in Eyes and Ears and Full Moon Fiasco. An album so good, in fact, that Worlds above and Worlds Below was chosen to be in the Awesome Feeling 4 compilation put out by Real Groove.

Cosmic Palms, recorded using both four track and digital formats, is a dense wander through psychedelic territory that makes good use of old and new technology. Featuring organs, acoustic guitar dispersed with the odd killer electrified riff, a solid rhythm section and the floating, shamanistic vocals of Rattray, Cosmic Palms is, simply put, the business. Showing a solid and well thought out grasp of song structure and wicked hooks, make no mistake – it’s a catchy beast, so consider yourself warned.
After playing live as a band for the past year or more, Will Rattray, Isaac Mawson, Alice Macklow and Aidan Craig have “killed it” at numerous parties and venues around New Zealand. As such and quite rightly so, Full Moon Fiasco have developed into a force to be reckoned with – an all out aural cacophony of blistering psychedelic tones and sounds.

To support the album release of Cosmic Palms Full Moon Fiasco are undertaking a national tour from the 6th to the 21st of August.

Juicy July, time for some new designer tunes on the ‘lifter

Welcome to a new month and the new line-up of tunes on the Starlifter Radio playlist.

One of the biggest releases to come out for me over the past few months has been the new one from the Chemical Brothers, ‘Further’. It’s fabulous, and probably one of my favorites since ‘Dig Your Own Hole’. Definitely not as dark and much more on the loved up buzz which I think is just what many people in the world need right now. I’ve added ‘K+D+B’ to the mix and  to compliment that ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ is there just to remind you that the K-Hole isn’t too far away.

dESIGNER vIOLENCE is the blood-gloss configuration of Thomas Dietrich and Tristen Deschain. Barely a year old, dESIGNER vIOLENCE is just starting to receive pin pricks of the attention. The duo’s profile was recently elevated after the success of it’s remix of Within Temptation’s “The temptation within”. Tristen was formerly in a Christchurch outfit called 5 1/2 Minutes. We’ve added a glitchy wee number from them called ‘lIPSTICK’.

All my friends seem to be raving about these guys at the moment and why not ‘I think I, I think I like it!’. Fake Blood are the radness on the italio-nu-disco tip and I dig it yo. Cheers to Endless Alias for this hook-up.

Man, Tame Impala. They are just amazing.  Their latest album, ‘Innerspeaker’, is in the running for my favourite album of the year, definitely the best rock album of the year so far. They seem to be pretty good at covering other people’s music too, a cover of the Midnight Juggernauts ‘Vital Signs’ has been just added, enjoy.

Karlmarx is production duo Isaac Aesili (aka Karl) and Mark McNeill. Isaac is based in Auckland and his brother Mark is based in Christchurch. The project got started as an experiment in combining the  different tastes of the two brothers together to see what the fusion of these would sound like. The songs on this album were made specifically after being conceptualized around the themes Karlmarx decided to explore. Mark McNeill is a producer and engineer who makes his own music while studying at film school at Canterbury University. He was initially the studio engineer for The Shocking Pinks who are signed to DFA Records in New York. His influences include industrial and synthpop. ‘Leaning Shadows’ has been added to Starlifter for your listening pleasure.

And just to round things off I’ve uploaded ‘The Twelfth Hour’ DJ mix set from Brazilian Disco duo, The Twelves. Everything these guys touch is gold. Dance baby! If you want it for your MP3 Player you can download it from here.
