Starlifter.TV in da hizzy, OH YEAH!

Howdy and Welcome!
Well I think that it has taken all of 2008 to get myself all sorted with a blog/site that can do all the things that I want it to do and here it is (hopefully this one won’t get hacked by Turkish Hackers).

*** Hi there! Welcome to Starlifter.TV ***

Dr Hitchcock here keeping it fresh, fried and freakified! I am Programme & Music Director and Friday Drive Host at RDU 98.5 FM in Christchurch, New Zealand, I host and produce podcasts, DJ out and about, throw the odd party, and make a general nuisance of myself (you how it is). My previous project was the “Mixtape” brand, the Mixtape Sessions Radio Show, the Mixtape Connection Parties and Podcasts etc.

But this is the new nu – if there’s any bands, producers or music you think is worth checking out let me know. That’s what Starlifter.TV is all about, helping amazing musicians and artists be seen in the cosmic jungle. You can email me at: starliftertv [at] gmail [dot] com or via any of the many sites listed on the side. I’m even thinking about producing some video shows in 2009 but we’ll see.

I’m in the process of reviewing the new Module (Module.co.nz) live album ‘Pattern Dot Life’ so be sure to check out Starlifter.TV for that really soon. In the mean time you can hear the album for yourself. It’s available for free download from www.patterndotlife.co.nz

Oh, Tom Cosm (COSM.co.nz) has a new song ‘heaps good strong board‘ available for free download now too. It’s heaps of fun.

Thanks for crusing with me on this journey. It’s great having you along for the ride.

Peace,
Dr H

PS Mad props to Tim and the crew at Deflux Design for all their help! You guys RAWK!

Yay The Klap! What? Starlifter.TV… WTF??? Podomatic… Fully WTF???

The Klap – YouTube

First up congrats to The Klap for taking out RDU’s RounD-Up band competition for 2008. They put on a great performance in the final. As part of the prize pack they won they’ve already recorded a song and shot a music video (above). Download the song “not getting younger” here (right click and select “save link as”).

You may have notice that I’ve change the name of the blog to Starlifter.TV. Just a slight change and I’m hoping to do a lot more video (hence the .TV).

I’ve just started a new podcast on Podomatic.com called Starlifter.TV (original huh). You can find it at http://starliftertv.podomatic.com.The first episode features my latest DJ mix, Music To Raise Children to – Vol. 2. I’m hoping to put up a whole bunch of different stuff, interviews with musos, the odd jam from my band the Electro Pussy Posse (EPP), DJ mixes and random sound art guff. So yeah, it’s gonna be interesting. I hope you enjoy it. And if you ever wanna get in touch just flick me an email mixtapesessions (at) gmail (dot) com.

Peace,
Dr H

RDU RounD-Up and Decknology Final TONIGHT!

Things are gettin’ pretty exciting in ole Churchtown today. A crazy norwester is blowin’ through town and 5 of Christchurch’s best bands are preparing for the RDU RounD-Up final. RounD-Up is probably Christchurch’s longest running band competition and was formerly known as the “Not-So-Young-Entertainers Competition” (the name being a piss take on a NZ TV talent show). From the wee bit of research that I did online I came across an archive of the RDU site back in 1998 which makes RDU’s band competition at least 10 years old. The Stefan Van Soest Hit Machine (SVSHM) were winners that year with Duluxeboy, Android and Mountains of Murray also in the final. To find out more about who entered in 1998 click here. The SVSHM still play the odd gig in CHCH in some form or other and have just launched a new page on Facebook. Winners over the last couple of years include Bang! Bang! Eche! The Tiger Tones, and The Undercurrents. All amazing bands in their own special way and all bands RDU has been proud to champion. The amount of brilliant musical talent coming out of Christchurch over the last 5 years has been fantastic. This years RounD-Up final is freakin’ exciting too and consists of (in no particular order) The KlapTiny Paper DaggersDenmark StreetJimmy Zoom and the Beytown Grifters and Sexy Animals. I wish them all the best and I look forward to their performances.

See you at the Dux.
Peace,
Dr H
